Since April 2021, Transition Bookham has been operating only as an umbrella organisation for the Plastic Free Bookham project - though please get in touch with us if you have another environmental project that you'd like to pursue. Find out about the project at

We were grateful to have received a grant from The National Lottery Community Fund, distributed by Transition Together, which covered 2023's running expenses.  More information on Transition Together - the organisation that supports the Transition Network - can be found at

Bookham Squareabout
What will Bookham look like in future?
Transition Bookham was formed in 2010 by a group of local people who were concerned about the environment. The Transition Towns movement is a network of over 1000 Transition communities throughout the world who are all working to make their local neighbourhoods more sustainable and self-reliant.

From 2010 until 2020 we held regular meetings and events to raise awareness of the issues about the damage our lifestyles do to the environment. From 2021 onwards we are concentrating solely on gaining Plastic Free accreditation for Bookham.

Can you help?

We're looking for people to get involved with the Plastic Free project by signing up as Business Champions or Community Allies. If you represent a local business or organisation and are interested in joining our Plastic Free journey, take a look at the project website (address above) to see what's involved.
Outside of the project, if you are interested in organising a local environmental talk or event under the Transition Bookham umbrella, please get in touch at the email address below. The main subjects we're interested in are:

Allotment gardening
Allotment gardening

growing our own food

  • generating our own energy
  • encouraging biodiversity
  • promoting simpler lifestyles using less energy and fewer resources
  • tackling waste by encouraging reduction, re-use, recycling, and, where possible, repair of items
